Culminating Event/ Book Launch
As part of this assignment, students will have a book launch. The launch can be held as an online event via social media like Facebook, Twitter, etc. Or they can have an in-person launch (like a book signing at a local book shop, on campus, etc.)
The students will decide which format they want to do. As well, individual students/ groups can collaborate with one another to do one big launch. Indie publishers have made a big splash on Amazon, with many of them going on to having real success. ("The Martian" was self-published originally.) Authors who decide to go the indie route need to be good at promotions and marketing. This portion of the project teaches new authors how to plan that aspect of their book-making careers. Here is some information to get them started. It gives them suggestions on how to hold parties on Facebook, do book signings, and other pertinent information. Students should begin planning this aspect of the project from the beginning of the semester. It takes time to properly set up a launch. Students will want to also conduct their own research about doing a book launch.
